Macrium only runs one process and one Service.Īlso, Macrium bootable media has a neat little tool called: Fix Boot Problems. Reserved partition growing in size should also not matter, as differences are only some Megabytes and modern hardware has available many Gigabytes.

This should not matter because they can still restore partitions individually and get customizations back by using normal partition manager operations. Others complain that Acronis breaks their own custom multi-boot menu functions.

This should not matter because Windows partition should always have enough free space to still be able to fit everything you need on it. Some people complain that Acronis resizes Windows partition. If you ever intend to sell the laptop you can still get the Recovery partition back by restoring it from the image you created in Acronis, and enjoy freed up space until then. It is only used to reset the laptop back to HP factory defaults, which shouldn't be necessary because you have Acronis to restore things back to how they were originally when you started using the laptop. Recovery partition can be eliminated if you don't need it. It just confuses some people because they can no longer tell partitions apart, but anyone with admin skills should be able to recognize the identity of each partition without remembering enumerations and sizes.

It knows how to automatically keep installations of Windows OS, Recovery partitions, etc. This is readily achieved using Macrium Reflect - plenty of guides for that and threads on it here.Īcronis shuffling partitions around resizing them is perfectly normal behavior.

If you have difficulties, rather than deal with a welter of technical fixes, consider redoing this properly, using the disk image of the partitions you presumably have. Note: upgrading to a larger disk should be a straight forward operation, and not involve all these issues at all. (System Restore + Command prompt + boot to Safe Mode. If you've relocated it without any other amendment, assigning a new partition number, it will likely not be. To check your Recovery partition is functional try

Previously it was typically the case on an upgrade that the Recovery partition (first) would become redundant, and a new one created last. However, in later builds MS now puts the Recovery partition last after C: on a clean install, so there are no problems extending it. In principle the order of partitions doesn't matter for normal operation, provided the Recovery partition is correctly assigned. Hi, just taking 1 of your issues as there are many: the Recovery partition. Thanks in advance.ĭisk Management 256GB SSD - 1.5 Months Ago Is the size difference of the Reserved Partition an issue? Larger because the SSD is a larger capacity. Acronis did not list this partition and I am wondering if it is On the 256GB SSD in the MiniTool the Reserved Partition had a size of 16MB Capacity and 16MB Used and on theĥ00GB SSD it is has a 128MB Capacity and 128MB Used.

I wonder if a Windows update changed it? Does the label really matter?ģ. Screenshot of it in Disk Management the day I bought the laptop it was labeled "Windows RE tools 515 MB NTFS I just noticed now, that the current 256GB SSD labels it "515MB Healthy (Recovery Partition)" but when I took a Why is the Recovery Partition no longer listed as a Volume in Disk Management? Is this a problem? However in the MiniTool it is labeled Windows RE tools. Healthy (Recovery Partition) and on the 500GB SSD it is not. In Disk Management the 515MB Healthy (Recovery Partition) on the 256GB SSD is listed as a Volume and is labeled as a

Does the order of the partitions matter? Is this a problem or potential problemĢ. It appears to have swapped with the Reserved Partition. In both Disk Management and the MiniTool, the EFI System Partition is listed as Partition 1 on the 256GB SSD and However taking a look at Disk Management in Windows and using MiniTool Partition, the partitions were not quite the same. After recovery I had no issues booting the laptop with the 500GB SSD and it seems to be running fine.

I had to resize the partitions when recovering to the 500GB. Then replaced the 256GB SSD with the 500GB SSD and used the bootable media to recover. I used the Acronis bootable media on USB and made a backup of the 256GB SSD Disks and Partitions to my NAS via FTP. I got copy of Acronis True Image 2020 a couple months ago and decided to make a back up image of the 256GB SSD and then restore it to the new 500GB SSD. The laptop only has the one NVMe port and I don't have a NVMe to USB adapter or enclosure, so cloning wasn't an option.
